An excellent decorative piece

This table receives a ton of compliments from our guests, and it is likely my favorite thing in my home. Sometimes I'll just sit there and look at it. The marble top is beautiful, and people notice the quality construction and the weight of the piece. It comfortably seats 6 people or 8 good friends... if you don't mind being a little close. The legs sit well towards the center of the table, so chairs can comfortably slide under it. The marble is nice and cool to the touch, and people remark when they see it's not a lamination over wood. It is not, however, a practical dining surface. It works for us because we have no children and only use the table for occasional game nights (cards slide VERY well across the surface if you care about stuff like that). We let guests eat at it once (big mistake), and a water ring from a glass is now permanently in the marble although we got to it as soon as they left. I cannot stress enough how pretty the table is, but I have to equally stress the fact that you should never consume anything on or near it. Directions for the table discourage any food with color, oily food, hot drinks, cold drinks, and all colored liquids. If you still want the table and intend to use it for anything other than a decorative piece or enjoying room-temperature water, definitely invest in a glass top for it and buy the protection that the store offers.
