Storage Solutions for Small Spaces

Small space apartment dwelling can sometimes cause storage challenges. You may be thinking about selling some of your stuff so you can have extra room. With these unique storage solutions, you might not have to! Using creativity and innovative ideas, you will find that you can actually keep a clean, open space without having to get rid of the items you love.

The First Step
First, you must understand what smart storage actually is. Be smart about storing by categorizing your items and keeping them out of sight or displayed in an interesting way that will still save space. Figure out how much unused space you have throughout each room and then find stylish solutions to use the limited space you do have.

Smart Storage Solution #1: Go Up!
To help clear surfaces and everyday storage pieces, such as the cabinets in your kitchen or bathroom, utilize the space above your head! This will help you feel more organized and clutter-free. So what type of vertical space has storage potential? Perhaps adding floating shelves above doorways or even your refrigerator could add potential for extra storage. To utilize space all the way up to the ceiling, you could even add stackable bins and boxes to bedroom closets.

Smart Storage Solution #2: Go Below!
The space under a larger piece of furniture can be a great out-of-sight storage spot. Just think about all that room under your bed! Take advantage of rolling storage totes – they're made to stow items beneath beds. Throw on a bed skirt to block the totes from view and you'll find yourself with a roomy, stylish living space.

To store out-of-season clothing and accessories, try placing these items in baskets under the perimeter of the bed for a compartmental alternative to storage totes.

Baskets are also a great option to store your things beneath benches in entryways or hallways. Try placing accessories, shoes, pet supplies and other odds and ends into these baskets to free up even more space. To keep living room clutter like magazines, coasters and remotes out of the way, try storage ottomans or coffee tables that double as storage.

Smart Storage Solution #3: Make Use of Magnets
When it comes to small space storage, magnets are your friends. Organizing your space using magnets is a great way to keep extra stuff off counters yet still accessible. Paint your kitchen and bathroom walls with magnetic paint to store frequently used items. You can also place magnets on the back of small storage boxes to stow away bathroom items such as makeup, toothpaste and dental floss.
